RomeLid holding a MacBook lid slightly open
For Claude Code · Codex · Cursor agents

Close your laptop.
Your agents keep working.

The moment your MacBook lid closes, macOS clamshell sleep kills Claude Code, Codex and every local agent mid-task. RomeLid holds the lid one perfect centimeter open — so it never fires.

You know this pain.

You kick off a 40-minute agent run. You close the lid to head out. You open it later — dead at 2%, progress gone.

caffeinate doesn't help

It blocks idle sleep. Physically closing the lid triggers clamshell sleep — a different mechanism that fires instantly.

pmset is risky

sudo pmset disablesleep 1 works — until you forget to undo it and cook your battery in a bag. Most devs won't touch it.

Leaving it open is worse

A fully open laptop can't go in a bag, invites spills and screen damage, and looks like an invitation to touch it.

One centimeter. That's the whole trick.

1

Clip it on

Slide RomeLid onto the edge of your MacBook base. Soft pads grip without marks.

2

Close onto it

The lid rests on RomeLid ~1cm open. The lid sensor never reports "closed."

3

Agents keep running

Pair with caffeinate -i and SSH/tmux and your agent runs until it's done — even from your bag pocket, vents clear.

Every other fix has a catch.

Built for one job. Obsessively.

The 1 cm rule

Wide enough that the lid sensor never reports "closed." Narrow enough that the screen stays dark and the battery barely notices.

Zero-mark contact

Every touch point is a soft pad. No adhesive, no residue, nothing rigid against aluminum or glass.

Pocketable

Lighter than your USB-C cable. Lives in the pouch until a long run needs to survive a commute.

RomeLid is newly launched — customer reviews will appear here as verified buyers leave them. We never publish fabricated testimonials.

Questions, answered.

Won't my Mac overheat in a bag?

Keep vents unobstructed and avoid sealed compartments during heavy compute. RomeLid keeps the lid ajar for airflow; for long heavy runs, bag-top or outer pocket placement is recommended. Monitor temps like you would any sustained workload.

Does it scratch my MacBook?

No — every contact point is a soft-touch pad. No adhesive, no residue.

Which models fit?

MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, 2016 and newer. Doesn't fit? Return it for a full refund.

Why not just use caffeinate?

caffeinate blocks idle sleep. Closing the lid triggers clamshell sleep — a separate hardware-sensor event. RomeLid stops the sensor from ever reporting "closed." Use both together for a bulletproof setup.

Shipping & returns?

Is this an Apple product?

No. RomeLid is an independent accessory, not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple Inc.
